Area Claims Manager (Healthcare Liability)

Location: Remote, based in the United States; Maywood, Illinois, with travel to various hirify.global sites up to 50% of the time.

Hourly pay: $51.81–$85.49.

What you will do

• Manage hospital professional liability, general liability, employment practices liability, and assigned uninsured litigation claims.
• Design and direct investigations, assessing coverage, standard of care, liability, causation, damages, witness credibility, expert opinions, and claim value.
• Set indemnity and expense reserves, maintain claim files and diaries, and ensure accurate ClearSight data and reporting.
• Develop resolution strategies, negotiate settlements, participate in mediations, settlement conferences, case evaluations, and trials.
• Retain and supervise defense counsel, review legal recommendations, and approve defense fees and litigation expenses.
• Collaborate with risk management, patient safety, senior leadership, loss control, and claims staff on exposure, evidence preservation, reporting, and emerging litigation trends.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Three to five years of experience as a liability claims professional adjuster, defense malpractice attorney, or hospital risk manager.
• Proficiency with the IRMS ClearSight claims database and working knowledge of medical terminology.
• Strong analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently and manage shifting priorities.
• Ability to travel to various hirify.global sites up to 50% of the time and work independently from a remote location.
• Ability to perform moderate physical activity, including lifting and bending.

Nice to have

• Clinical healthcare degree or graduate degree in law or hospital administration.
• Supervisory experience and advanced knowledge of risk management, quality management, and improvement.
