TL;DR
Process Engineer - Battery Development (Battery Manufacturing): Developing and optimizing electrode slurry mixing processes for advanced battery cells in a pilot-scale battery development environment with an accent on chemical formulations, process controls, slurry characterization, and manufacturing scale-up. Focus on investigating process deviations, solving material and equipment challenges, and improving yield, process capability, throughput, and consistency.

Location: Warren, Michigan, United States; hybrid attendance at the specified location at least three times per week. Travel required up to 25%. Relocation benefits are available for eligible candidates.

Company

hirify.global develops vehicles, battery systems, intelligent software, and transportation technologies focused on safer, smarter, and more connected mobility.

What you will do

  • Develop and optimize electrode slurry mixing processes for advanced battery materials and next-generation battery technologies.
  • Create, maintain, and execute mixing recipes covering chemical formulations, ingredient sequencing, temperatures, speeds, and durations.
  • Run slurry mixing batches while maintaining process controls, quality standards, and safety requirements.
  • Characterize slurry through viscosity, solids content, particle size distribution, and coating performance testing.
  • Investigate process deviations, equipment issues, and quality concerns using structured problem-solving methods, then implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, operations, maintenance, and manufacturing partners to support process optimization and scale-up.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related technical field.
  • At least three years of hands-on process engineering experience in a laboratory, pilot plant, or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with slurry mixing, chemical formulation, industrial mixing, wet chemistry, or similar materials-processing operations.
  • Knowledge of chemical processing fundamentals, material interactions, manufacturing process controls, and technical documentation.
  • Experience with structured root cause analysis methods such as 8D, DMAIC, A3, or equivalent.
  • Must be a U.S. Person or eligible to obtain required export control authorization. GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.

Nice to have

  • Experience with lithium-ion battery development, battery cell manufacturing, or electrode manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of cathode and anode materials, binders, solvents, conductive additives, and related chemistries.
  • Experience with NMP-based or aqueous-based slurry systems, DOE, SPC, and process optimization.
  • Experience scaling new products or technologies from development into manufacturing.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work in a pilot-scale environment focused on emerging battery technologies, including lithium manganese rich and sodium-ion platforms.
  • Contribute to battery solutions for electric vehicles and energy storage systems.
  • Collaborate with technical experts across battery development, manufacturing, and product engineering.
  • Employee benefits and total rewards are available from the beginning of employment.
  • Relocation benefits may be provided under company policy for qualifying candidates.

Hiring process

  • Applicants may be required to complete a role-related assessment and pre-employment screening.
