People Research Scientist (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid in Palo Alto, CA or San Francisco, CA, United States

Salary: $140,000–$155,000 annual base salary, plus equity and a discretionary bonus

What you will do

• Conduct qualitative and small-N quantitative research on employee performance, career progression, manager effectiveness, and retention.
• Use interviews, focus groups, surveys, and people data to generate evidence-based findings.
• Translate research findings into programs, launch them with function leaders, measure results, and iterate.
• Partner with People Operations leadership on organizational design, leveling, career pathways, and expectations for managers and individual contributors.
• Build first-time manager, early-career, mentorship, and talent assessment programs.
• Analyze talent decision data and present clear recommendations to senior leadership.

Requirements

• PhD in industrial-organizational psychology, organizational behavior, sociology, quantitative psychology, behavioral economics, or a related field.
• Evidence of applying research theory in practice through published research, a dissertation, a deployed program, or an analysis that changed organizational operations.
• Strong research-methods expertise, including interview and survey design, qualitative coding, and statistical analysis.
• Working proficiency in R or Python; familiarity with SQL is a plus or willingness to learn it.
• Clear writing, strong collaboration skills, evidence-based judgment, and discretion with sensitive employee data.
• Interest in personal finance and investing, with willingness to develop expertise in the industry.
