HR Operations Manager (AI)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco or New York, with 3 days per week required in the office

Salary: $140,000–$166,250 per year, plus equity

What you will do

• Own the end-to-end employee and People team experience across HR programs, systems, policies, benefits, payroll deductions, and leave programs.
• Identify operational friction and risk through employee questions, service patterns, audits, and data, then improve, simplify, or retire processes.
• Manage core HR systems including Bob, Ashby, Awardco, and Paylocity, and lead research and implementation of new tools.
• Build AI agents, Claude skills, automations, and integrations that reduce manual work and turn People data into business insights.
• Lead benefits, unemployment, leave, payroll compliance, immigration, and related HR Centers of Excellence across multiple US states.
• Support compensation and feedback cycles, engagement surveys, recognition programs, lifecycle changes, and cross-functional initiatives with Finance, Accounting, IT, and Legal.

Requirements

• 7+ years of HR Operations or People Operations experience with hands-on expertise in benefits, leave, payroll compliance, and HR systems.
• Deep knowledge of multi-state employment requirements, including strong practical knowledge of California requirements.
• Broad expertise across benefits, unemployment, leave, payroll, and US immigration processes.
• Experience building automation or AI-enabled workflows with agents, no-code or low-code tools, or integrations.
• Proven ability to improve HR systems and data quality, deliver multi-quarter projects, and work independently from goals and direction.
• Strong communication, judgment, discretion, and ability to influence Finance, Accounting, IT, and Legal partners on sensitive employee matters.

Nice to have

• Experience with Bob, Ashby, Awardco, or Paylocity.
• Experience with M&A integrations, contractor classification, or global remote workforces.
• Experience in a high-growth technology company.
• HR certification such as SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR, or CEBS.
