Software Engineer - Imaging Systems

Location: San Mateo, California, United States; onsite five days per week

Annual pay range: $130,000–$280,000 USD, including base compensation and commissions where applicable.

What you will do

• Design and implement camera software across the imaging stack using C++ and C, including 3A algorithms, camera pipeline configuration, and sensor drivers.
• Build internal tools for image-system tuning, automated diagnostics, image-quality optimization, and detection of imaging anomalies.
• Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and computer vision teams to integrate and validate end-to-end image performance and system stability.
• Work with external vendors on image-quality tuning and refine results against product performance targets.
• Analyze system metrics and imaging data to deliver data-driven features and continuous performance improvements.

Requirements

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years of software development experience with a strong foundation in systems programming.
• Proficiency in C++.
• Strong problem-solving skills, ability to learn quickly, and ability to work independently.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills, with experience collaborating across cross-functional teams.
• Must be able and willing to work onsite five days per week in San Mateo, California.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of optics, image sensors, ISP algorithms, and SDK integration for imaging components.
• Understanding of digital camera systems, including auto-exposure, autofocus, auto white balance, WDR, and day/night transitions.
• Experience detecting and triaging imaging artifacts and hardware-software system faults.
• Experience developing on-device software for IoT systems or embedded Linux environments.
• Ability to evaluate image quality objectively and subjectively, including noise, sharpness, color accuracy, and overall visual performance.
