Senior Data Center Commissioning Specialist – Mechanical

Location: Arlington, VA, US; requires travel up to 95% to active data center job sites nationwide. U.S. citizenship is strictly required for clearance and facility access, along with a comprehensive background check.

What you will do

• Lead and document Level 4 component/system functional testing and Level 5 integrated systems and operational readiness testing.
• Oversee contractor-driven L0–L3 construction checkouts, quality control, component verification, and pre-functional activities.
• Direct safe start-up, calibration, and integration of HVAC units, chillers, air handlers, pumps, piping, and building automation controls.
• Track commissioning deficiencies and punch-list items through resolution and handover to operations teams.
• Interface with clients, project owners, stakeholders, and trade contractors as the primary technical representative.
• Prepare commissioning scripts, logs, and final turnover reports against owner project requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Sciences, or a related discipline, or equivalent education and progressive field experience.
• At least 10 years of progressive professional experience with mechanical commissioning across utility infrastructure, life safety, mechanical, plumbing, and building automation systems.
• At least 2–3 years of hands-on experience documenting L2/L3 construction activities and leading L4/L5 testing in data center environments.
• Working knowledge of ASHRAE standards, NFPA codes, TAB requirements, and the commercial or mission-critical construction lifecycle.
• Exceptional communication, problem-solving, leadership, and multidisciplinary coordination skills.
• U.S. citizenship, successful background check, and ability to travel up to 95% nationwide are required.

Nice to have

• BCxA, CxA, or equivalent commissioning certification.
• IR Thermography Level 1 or Level 2, NFPA 70E, or OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.
• Hands-on infrared thermography experience for electrical and mechanical asset diagnostics in mission-critical facilities.
