Database SysOps Engineer (Oracle)

Location: Bristol Head Office, United Kingdom; hybrid working with a minimum of two days per week in the office. Permanent full-time role, Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week. Participation in the on-call support rota is required.

What you will do

• Support and maintain enterprise database platforms, primarily Oracle, with additional responsibility for MariaDB, Microsoft SQL Server, and Sybase ASE.
• Monitor database performance, availability, capacity, and operational alerts.
• Resolve incidents, service requests, technical problems, and major incidents in line with service expectations.
• Perform database administration, patching, maintenance, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery activities.
• Implement infrastructure changes and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and operational runbooks.
• Contribute to automation, database migrations, platform upgrades, cloud adoption, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Production administration experience with Oracle database platforms.
• Practical experience with Oracle RMAN backup, recovery, and restore activities.
• Experience supporting business-critical production systems and working with Linux server environments.
• Experience with incident, problem, and change management processes.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and workload-management skills.
• Understanding of security, resilience, and operational risk in enterprise technology environments.

Nice to have

• Experience with MariaDB, Microsoft SQL Server, or Sybase ASE.
• Knowledge of Oracle RAC, Data Guard, Data Guard Broker, database performance tuning, replication, or migration tooling.
• Exposure to Ansible, PowerShell, Python, Shell scripting, AWS, Azure, DevSecOps, or Infrastructure as Code.
• Experience in financial services or another regulated environment.
