Senior Database Administrator (SQL Server)

Location: Must be based in the UK. Remote-first role with hybrid working available at the Cosham office and occasional onsite workshops.

What you will do

• Administer, monitor, and support production and non-production Microsoft SQL Server instances and cloud database services, including SingleStore.
• Ensure availability, reliability, scalability, performance, and security for business-critical SaaS workloads.
• Diagnose and resolve complex issues involving queries, blocking, deadlocks, resource contention, storage, replication, and connectivity.
• Optimise queries, indexes, execution plans, schemas, and database configurations in collaboration with software engineers.
• Design and test backup, restore, high-availability, and disaster-recovery processes aligned with recovery objectives.
• Automate administration, monitoring, deployment, patching, migration, and lifecycle-management tasks using T-SQL, scripting, infrastructure, and CI/CD tools.

Requirements

• Must be based in the UK; sponsorship is not available.
• 8+ years of experience administering business-critical production databases, including significant recent senior DBA experience.
• Strong hands-on Microsoft SQL Server expertise covering installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, backups, recovery, security, and performance tuning.
• Advanced knowledge of SQL Server high-availability and disaster-recovery technologies, including Always On Availability Groups, clustering, replication, log shipping, and tested restores.
• Expert T-SQL skills and deep knowledge of execution plans, indexing, statistics, locking, isolation levels, query optimisation, and database observability.
• Experience with Azure or AWS database services, automation, CI/CD pipelines, large datasets, and demanding 24/7 SaaS environments.

Nice to have

• Experience with SingleStore or another distributed SQL platform.
• Relevant Microsoft, cloud, or database certifications.
