Backend Developer (Java)

Location: Berlin, Germany; hybrid schedule with three days of in-office collaboration on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday

What you will do

• Design and develop scalable solutions for supplier infrastructure and marketplace capabilities.
• Build and improve distributed systems, search and recommendation functionality, and reliable observable services.
• Design, launch, and iterate on A/B experiments and use event-based analytics to learn about customers.
• Collaborate with backend, full-stack, mobile, data engineering, product, design, and analytics specialists.
• Continuously improve the codebase, systems, and development processes.
• Mentor team members and participate in hiring while helping evaluate and adopt AI technologies responsibly.

Requirements

• 6+ years of software development experience with distributed systems or search engines.
• High proficiency in Java and experience designing and deploying large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience building reliable and observable systems and writing fast, maintainable code.
• Strong prioritization, stakeholder management, communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.
• Customer-centric and data-driven approach to decision-making.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with A/B testing, hypothesis building, and event-based analytics.
• Experience with Node.js, Vue.js, or similar component-based frontend frameworks.
• Previous experience in e-commerce or startup environments.
