Senior Project Lead (Legal AI)

Location: Onsite in San Francisco, California, United States

Salary: $130,000–$200,000 base; $400,000 OTE

Applied AI company producing expert-level training data, reinforcement-learning environments, and agents for frontier AI labs. The company has rapidly expanded from fewer than twenty employees to more than fifty and reached a nine-figure revenue run rate.

What you will do

• Own legal-domain engagements with frontier AI lab researchers from scoping through delivery.
• Define quality standards and rubrics for correct legal answers across practice areas.
• Translate research requirements into specifications for legal datasets and evaluations.
• Recruit, guide, and quality-check legal experts producing training data.
• Use data analysis and AI tools to review outputs, identify gaps, and improve throughput.
• Coordinate with engineering and operations teams to deliver projects on time and to a high quality standard.

Requirements

• JD or equivalent legal qualification.
• At least 3 years of legal practice at a leading firm, sophisticated company, government or regulatory body, or legal AI startup.
• Substantive experience in legal drafting, negotiation, litigation, or advising, with strong legal reasoning and research methodology.
• Comfort working with data and AI tools.
• Strong client-facing skills and the ability to work with high ownership in ambiguous environments.
• Ability to work onsite in San Francisco.

Nice to have

• Python or hands-on data analysis experience.
• Legal technology, e-discovery, or contract analytics experience.
• Experience in technically demanding areas such as securities, antitrust, tax, or patent prosecution.
• Multi-jurisdictional legal experience.
