Senior Flight Software Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: On-site in Alameda, United States; travel to the flight test site is required.

What you will do

• Own the architecture of major flight software subsystems, including timing, partitioning, and redundancy.
• Design and implement deterministic, real-time embedded software in C++.
• Develop fault detection and response, redundancy management, degraded modes, and lost-link behavior.
• Define requirements and interfaces with avionics, GNC, and flight-test teams, and trace them to verification tests.
• Build telemetry, logging, and command paths, and implement and verify GNC algorithms against simulation.
• Lead software integration, testing, design reviews, coding standards, and mentoring for other engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of professional C or C++ development on embedded, real-time, or safety-critical systems.
• Experience owning a flight software subsystem or equivalent from architecture through fielded operation.
• Experience taking software through hardware integration and testing on an aircraft, spacecraft, automotive vehicle, or other real vehicle.
• Experience designing fault detection and response for systems where failures have safety consequences.
• Experience leading design reviews and setting technical direction for other engineers.

Nice to have

• Flight software experience on crewed or uncrewed aircraft or spacecraft.
• RTOS or bare-metal development with strong knowledge of scheduling, timing, and memory.
• Experience with redundant or fault-tolerant flight computer architectures.
• Experience with DO-178C, ISO 26262, or a comparable development standard.
• Python for tooling, test automation, and flight data analysis, plus clear technical writing.
