Senior Human Resources Generalist

Location: Fairfax, Virginia, United States (hybrid)

Salary: $90,000–$115,000 per year

What you will do

• Serve as a primary contact for escalated and complex employee and manager HR inquiries.
• Interpret and apply company policies consistently while supporting compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
• Conduct intake and initial assessments of employee relations concerns and advise on performance management and corrective actions.
• Review involuntary separations and related documentation for compliance, accuracy, and risk mitigation.
• Coordinate with Payroll and IT on final pay, benefits notifications, and system-access termination.
• Partner with HR leadership and cross-functional teams on workforce trends, reporting, investigations, audits, and process improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least five years of progressive HR experience at the HR Generalist level or above.
• Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws, including FMLA, FLSA, ADA, and Title VII.
• Experience supporting employee relations and performance matters.
• Experience with HRIS platforms; ADP experience is preferred.
• Strong documentation, analytical, and communication skills.

Nice to have

• Professional HR certification such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR.
• Experience in government contracting or a multi-state environment.
• Experience supporting HR operations in a shared-services or centralized model.
