Network Engineer (Data Center)

Location: South San Francisco, California, United States

Base salary: $83,000–$138,000 USD per year, plus equity compensation for full-time employees.

What you will do

• Design, deploy, maintain, and monitor campus and data center networks covering switching, routing, wireless, NAC, firewalls, and site-to-site connectivity.
• Architect high-speed data center fabrics for HPC and GPU clusters, including ECMP, low-latency switching, and east-west traffic design.
• Automate network provisioning, configuration, and validation with Terraform, Ansible, Python, and Bash.
• Operate network observability using SNMP, sFlow, telemetry, Prometheus, and Grafana, and use metrics for capacity planning.
• Own fiber and structured cabling across buildings and data center spaces, including WDM, GPON, and fiber documentation.
• Coordinate maintenance, upgrades, expansions, incident response, hardware procurement, documentation, and 24/7 on-call readiness.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience with enterprise switching, routing, and wireless platforms.
• Knowledge of BGP, OSPF, ECMP, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, NTP, PTP, ARP, CDP, and LLDP.
• Experience with firewalls, SD-WAN, NAC, enterprise network security, and high-speed data center networks for compute or storage clusters.
• Experience with network monitoring, telemetry, and automation using Terraform, Ansible, or scripting.
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
• Commitment to confidentiality, data security, HIPAA compliance, PII handling, and applicable ISO and NIST standards.

Nice to have

• Experience with WDM, fiber optics, GPON, FTTH, eBPF-based observability, or packet analysis.
• Exposure to real-time systems, industrial telemetry networks, mesh VPN, or identity-aware zero-trust access.
• Experience with centrally managed next-generation firewalls.
• CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent data center certifications.
