Paralegal - Intellectual Property

Location: Hybrid in Chicago, Illinois; 3 days per week in the office, or 60% in-office over the course of the year. Applicants must be eligible to work lawfully in the United States immediately.

Salary: $59,400–$110,000 per year, plus potential annual incentive pay of up to 15% of base salary.

What you will do

• Support attorneys with patent, trademark, and copyright filings, responses, and legal documents.
• Review marketing and business content for potential intellectual property risks and recommend issues for attorney review.
• Monitor trademark watch, clearance, and infringement alerts, triage risks, and track deadlines.
• Draft cease-and-desist letters and support UDRP matters through research, evidence collection, and procedural documentation.
• Conduct legal and factual research, prepare written analyses, and respond to internal and external inquiries.
• Manage IP matters and deadlines using docketing systems such as FoundationIP or Anaqua and USPTO filing portals.

Requirements

• Paralegal degree or certificate, or equivalent education, and at least 3 years of intellectual property experience.
• Hands-on experience with patent and trademark filing lifecycles, including U.S. and foreign applications, Office Action responses, patent IDS filings, and trademark Statements of Use.
• Experience managing complex docketing deadlines and working with USPTO systems, including EFS-Web, Patent Center, and TEAS.
• Experience with the Copyright Office registration system and common IP docketing tools such as FoundationIP, Anaqua, or CPI.
• Experience conducting IP clearance and risk reviews for business or marketing content.
• Must be eligible to work lawfully in the U.S. immediately; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience in high-volume docketing or prosecution environments.
• Experience collaborating with prosecution teams and managing outside counsel requests.
• Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, judgment, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Awareness and use of AI or GenAI tools.
