Head of Legal / General Counsel (AI Hardware)

Location: San Jose, California; fully on-site. Relocation support is available for candidates moving to San Jose.

What you will do

• Lead, hire, and develop the legal team while establishing ownership, priorities, and performance standards.
• Build scalable legal operations, including intake, contract templates, negotiation playbooks, approval thresholds, escalation paths, and service-level agreements.
• Automate contract workflows, document generation, and knowledge management with appropriate human review and confidentiality protections.
• Lead IPO preparation with Finance, executives, the board, and outside counsel, including governance, disclosure, and public-company infrastructure.
• Personally lead complex negotiations involving customers, suppliers, manufacturing partners, IP licenses, and strategic partnerships.
• Advise executives and the board on financings, strategic transactions, equity compensation, governance, employment, IP, compliance, disputes, and legal risk.

Requirements

• Substantial experience advising high-growth technology companies in-house or at a leading law firm.
• Track record of hiring, developing, and leading high-performing legal teams.
• Deep expertise in commercial negotiations, corporate governance, and financings.
• Experience building legal processes that improve speed and quality without unnecessary bureaucracy.
• Strong business judgment, concise communication, and willingness to personally own complex legal work.
• JD and active bar admission required; California admission is preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience taking a technology company through an IPO and supporting public-company operations.
• Experience leading financings, acquisitions, or strategic transactions at a rapidly scaling company.
• Background in AI, hardware, semiconductors, or advanced manufacturing, including IP, supply, warranty, and technical acceptance terms.
• Experience implementing legal operations infrastructure, contract lifecycle management, AI, or automation tools.
