Backend Software Engineer (Java)

Location: Remote within Alberta or British Columbia, Canada

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable and secure RESTful APIs for customer integrations.
• Contribute to the evolution of core business systems and optimize system architecture for stability and performance.
• Reduce technical debt and apply software design patterns and engineering best practices.
• Own small features from initial concept and design through implementation and delivery.
• Participate in code reviews, knowledge sharing, agile development, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• 3+ years of software development experience in Java, including object-oriented design and design patterns.
• Experience building services and tools for web applications.
• Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, data modelling, and SQL skills, ideally with Hibernate and relational databases.
• Experience with Spring and familiarity with RESTful API development.
• Effective collaboration, communication, logical reasoning, and clear technical presentation skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with networking concepts such as IP routing and MPLS.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure including AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience with Kotlin, JavaScript, or Python.
