Location: Leeds, United Kingdom — hybrid. The role requires substantial professional experience in a UK-based daily news environment and eligibility to work in the UK.

Salary: £28,000–£35,000 per year, depending on relevant skills, knowledge, and experience.

What you will do

• Write sharp, accurate, and engaging online news stories.
• Cover breaking news, courts, inquests, local and national news indexes, original stories, and features.
• Use still images, video, and audio to strengthen online storytelling.
• Develop multi-platform newsgathering skills and coordinate online news coverage across Yorkshire.
• Generate original ideas and shape multimedia material for online, radio, and television audiences.
• Collaborate with colleagues across Yorkshire and hirify.global News on high-quality news output.

Requirements

• Substantial professional experience as a text-based journalist in a UK-based daily news environment.
• Excellent news-writing skills and a strong understanding of online media.
• Demonstrable experience using creative online storytelling techniques for diverse audiences.
• Substantial court-reporting experience, 100wpm shorthand, and excellent knowledge of media law.
• Ability to consistently generate original ideas and turn them into engaging multimedia material.
• Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom is required.

Nice to have

• Video production skills.
• Experience using social media to source and showcase content.
• Knowledge of South Yorkshire and the wider Yorkshire area, including current and upcoming news events.
