Principal AI Engineer (Architect)

Location: Wilmington, DE, United States; remote/hybrid with occasional onsite collaboration and 10–20% travel

What you will do

• Lead the end-to-end buildout of scalable AI and machine learning platforms.
• Design and maintain secure AI infrastructure, data pipelines, and model deployment systems.
• Deploy AI solutions on cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure, including services such as SageMaker and Kafka.
• Integrate third-party tools and connect AI systems with frontend and backend services through APIs and RESTful services.
• Optimize infrastructure and systems for performance, scalability, and efficiency.
• Set technical standards, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• Experience developing and maintaining large-scale AI or machine learning platforms.
• Strong proficiency in Python, Java, and R.
• Experience building scalable and secure AI infrastructure from scratch.
• Hands-on experience with AWS or Azure, data pipelines, model deployment, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Deep understanding of relational, NoSQL, and graph databases, plus caching solutions such as Redis.
• More than 10 years of progressive engineering experience in data-centric or AI-focused roles and a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

Nice to have

• Experience with generative AI, reinforcement learning, or autonomous systems.
• Knowledge of MLOps practices and tools.
• Experience with Hadoop, Spark, Databricks, or Snowflake.
• Knowledge of privacy and data security practices, including DLP, encryption, and redaction.
