TL;DR
Embedded Hardware Engineer (Electro-Optical Systems) (Defense and Aerospace): Designing, debugging, and qualifying embedded electronics for gyro-stabilized EO/IR systems, searchlights, counter-UAS products, and airborne, land, and maritime platforms with an accent on mixed-signal, high-speed digital, motor-control, video, and power circuitry. Focus on board bring-up, signal and power integrity, EMI/EMC validation, environmental qualification, and root-cause analysis for production and fielded systems.

Location: Sarasota, FL, United States; on-site. Up to 10% travel is required. Candidates must be U.S. Persons under ITAR/EAR and eligible to work on export-controlled programs.

Company

hirify.global's Trakka Systems develops mission-critical vision, surveillance, situational-awareness, and electro-optical solutions for airborne, maritime, land-based, defense, public-safety, and special-mission applications.

What you will do

  • Own embedded circuit-board development from requirements and architecture through schematic capture, PCB layout, release, bring-up, and qualification.
  • Design mixed-signal, high-speed digital, power, video, motor-control, stabilization, serial-communication, and DC/DC regulation circuitry.
  • Integrate STM32 or comparable ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers and FPGAs, defining interfaces with firmware engineers.
  • Perform first-article bring-up, power characterization, hardware debugging, interface validation, and signal and power integrity measurements.
  • Support EMI/EMC, thermal, environmental, shock, vibration, and qualification testing, driving corrective design changes.
  • Provide production and field support through failure analysis, test fixtures, troubleshooting procedures, engineering changes, and occasional system support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of hands-on embedded hardware design experience, including production schematics and PCB layouts.
  • Experience with embedded interfaces including SPI, I²C, UART/RS-232/RS-422, Ethernet, and at least one high-speed video or serial interface such as HDMI, SDI, or LVDS.
  • Experience designing with microcontrollers and FPGAs, plus solid knowledge of DC/DC regulation, sequencing, protection, power integrity, and grounding.
  • Ability to independently use laboratory instrumentation and clearly document technical findings and trade-offs.
  • Must be a U.S. Person under ITAR/EAR and eligible to work on export-controlled programs.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Altium Designer, BLDC/PMSM motor drives, stabilization systems, gyros, encoders, or IMUs.
  • Experience with EO/IR sensors, camera interfaces, video encoders or serializers, and FPGA development using VHDL or Verilog.
  • Embedded C experience for bring-up and diagnostic code.
  • Familiarity with DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, and IPC workmanship standards.
  • Experience supporting airborne, land, maritime, EO/IR gimbal, searchlight, or counter-UAS systems.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hands-on, bench-focused engineering work across new product development, production support, and fielded systems.
  • Products support defense, law enforcement, border security, search and rescue, utilities, and other special-mission operators.
  • Work includes collaboration with firmware, manufacturing, service, engineering, production, and customer-facing teams.
  • Full-time, on-site position with occasional remote or on-site field support and up to 10% travel.
  • Employment includes pre-employment background checks, drug testing where permitted by law, and E-Verify participation.
