TL;DR
Junior Electrical Engineer (Aerospace): Designing, integrating, testing, and managing electrical subsystems for spacecraft, payloads, instruments, and technology demonstrators with an accent on power systems, avionics, PCB design, harnessing, and space-environment qualification. Focus on defining electrical architectures and interfaces, evaluating EEE parts for radiation effects, and verifying subsystem performance through electrical testing.

Location: NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, California, United States; travel may be required to support mission and project partners.

Salary: $120,000–$140,000 per year

What you will do

  • Design, analyze, integrate, test, and manage electrical subsystems for spacecraft, payloads, instruments, and technology demonstrators.
  • Define system architectures, electrical block diagrams, interfaces, work products, components, and requirements.
  • Develop power budgets, circuit designs, PCB layouts, parts selections, harnesses, analyses, and ground support equipment.
  • Create and review schematics and drawings, coordinate PCB fabrication, and apply NASA standards and best practices.
  • Evaluate EEE parts for spaceflight, radiation, total ionizing dose, and single-event effects environments.
  • Write and perform verification and validation procedures while coordinating with multidisciplinary engineering, government, contractor, and mission partner teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar technical discipline.
  • 1–3 years of experience in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with electrical engineering, avionics, power generation and distribution, EEE parts, and harnessing for space environments.
  • NASA or industry spaceflight experience and detailed knowledge of Altium for electrical design and layout.
  • Experience reading and reviewing schematics and drawings, plus electrical verification and validation, pinout checks, safe-to-mate procedures, and Environmental Stress Screening.
  • Must be able to pass a Federal Background Check.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of NASA standards and best practices for electrical design and EEE parts.
  • Understanding of electromagnetic interference and electromagnetic compatibility.
  • Experience with FPGAs, Confluence, Jira, or customer relationship management.
  • Experience assigning work and managing personnel or tasks.
