Data Engineering Manager (Data Platform)

Location: Hybrid in Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Annual salary: CAD 207,000–253,000; typical starting salary for full readiness is CAD 230,000.

What you will do

• Lead, develop, and provide direction to a senior data engineering team.
• Own Snowflake cost management and execute a plan to reduce costs month over month.
• Define and drive real-time data and platform enablement, including Kafka streaming and a Snowflake MCP server for AI tooling.
• Build observability that helps the team identify platform issues before stakeholders do.
• Connect upgrades, migrations, refactors, and technical investments to revenue, efficiency, and risk-reduction outcomes.
• Run the team's operating rhythm, including planning, architectural decisions, code reviews, and cross-company requests.

Requirements

• At least two years of experience managing engineers, including senior team members.
• Deep, hands-on production experience with Snowflake and dbt, including data modeling.
• Experience owning a production data platform and delivering improvements in cost, reliability, or capability.
• Ability to balance technical debt, delivery speed, engineering concerns, and business priorities.
• Strong context-setting and business communication skills, including explaining problems, metrics, and business cases before architecture.
• High fluency with AI tools and experience guiding AI-enabled data capabilities.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS or GCP.
• Experience with Dagster or another data orchestrator.
• Experience with Fivetran, Hightouch, Terraform, Kafka, or other real-time data infrastructure.
