Principal Engineer - Network (Remote)

Location: USA - Remote, CA. US citizenship or Green Card holder status required.

Base salary: $195,000–$290,000 per year, with eligibility for bonuses, equity grants, and benefits.

Cybersecurity company building an AI-native platform that protects organizations and processes nearly 3 trillion events per day across large-scale distributed systems.

What you will do

• Own the IP and optical architecture of the global backbone, including connectivity to traditional and neocloud providers.
• Set the multi-year network roadmap, traffic engineering strategy, capacity plans, and demand forecasts.
• Select routing and optical hardware and collaborate with vendor engineering teams to influence product roadmaps.
• Define network automation, infrastructure-as-code, telemetry, analytics, and AI-assisted operations strategies.
• Lead initiatives from business funding through implementation and long-term operational stewardship, including senior escalation support during major incidents.
• Review senior engineers’ designs, establish technical standards, and mentor engineers toward principal-level expertise.

Requirements

• US citizenship or Green Card holder status.
• 12+ years designing, building, and operating large-scale backbone networks, including global architecture ownership.
• Deep expertise in IP/MPLS, IS-IS, MP-BGP, segment routing, MPLS-TE, VRFs, DDoS mitigation, CDN, DWDM, coherent optics, ROADM, and optical amplification.
• Strong cloud networking experience across AWS, GCP, OCI, Azure, and neocloud platforms, including direct connectivity and multi-cloud routing.
• Experience setting network automation and infrastructure-as-code strategy using technologies such as Terraform, Ansible, CI/CD, and GitOps.
• Experience with AI-assisted network operations, FedRAMP-authorized environments, organization-wide hardware and software deployments, and cross-domain infrastructure architecture. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience required.

Nice to have

• Experience self-hosting open-weight AI models for sensitive backbone data.
• Experience with networking vendors such as Juniper, Infinera, Nokia, Arista, and Cisco.
