Principal IT Engineer - Networking

Location: Hybrid role with regular onsite presence in Somerset, NJ, USA

Salary: $180,000–$200,000 per year

What you will do

• Design, implement, operate, and optimize Cisco and Meraki wired and wireless enterprise networks.
• Manage wireless LAN environments, including RF design, roaming, capacity, SSIDs, guest access, segmentation, and wireless security.
• Engineer campus and branch LAN/WAN infrastructure using routing, switching, high-availability, and resiliency technologies.
• Lead network incident triage, escalation, root-cause analysis, change execution, and preventative improvements.
• Monitor network performance, maintain documentation and operational runbooks, and standardize network practices across sites.
• Automate repeatable tasks and reporting with scripts and APIs while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with security, infrastructure, service desk, and application teams.

Requirements

• 10+ years of hands-on experience supporting and engineering enterprise networks.
• Expert-level Layer 2 and Layer 3 troubleshooting with advanced Cisco and/or Meraki wired and wireless experience.
• Strong knowledge of routing, switching, high availability, network resiliency, firewalls, cloud networking, and network monitoring.
• Experience with identity and access integrations including 802.1X, RADIUS/TACACS+, Cisco ISE, and network segmentation.
• Ability to automate network operations using PowerShell, Python, or APIs and apply structured troubleshooting methods.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or relevant work experience; strong communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.

Nice to have

• Cisco certifications such as CCNA or CCNP, or Meraki CMNA.
• Experience designing and administering Cisco ISE policies.
• Experience conducting wireless surveys and using RF and spectrum analysis tools.
• Experience with network automation, configuration management, or infrastructure tooling.
