Associate Director, Observability Engineering

Location: Melbourne, VIC, Australia; hybrid arrangement with three days in the office and two days remote or from home.

What you will do

• Own the enterprise observability strategy, roadmap, and capability maturity across network, application, platform, and customer service domains.
• Lead engineering of telemetry capabilities covering metrics, logs, events, traces, and network operational signals.
• Integrate telemetry across network, OSS, cloud, and service platforms to support analytics, AI, automation, and service-aware operations.
• Establish observability standards, data quality controls, governance, and instrumentation practices.
• Improve telemetry coverage, data quality, operational visibility, cost efficiency, and network resilience.
• Lead stakeholder engagement, technology partnerships, and the development of a high-performing observability engineering team.

Requirements

• Extensive leadership experience in telecommunications, Network Operations, observability, service assurance, OSS, or large-scale technology environments.
• Experience leading enterprise-scale observability, monitoring, telemetry engineering, or operational transformation capabilities.
• Strong knowledge of metrics, logs, events, traces, telemetry pipelines, instrumentation, event collection, and service-aware monitoring.
• Understanding of network operations, service assurance, operational data, topology, analytics, and AI-driven operations.
• Experience defining capability strategies, engineering standards, and roadmaps with measurable operational outcomes.
• Strong cross-domain leadership, executive communication, commercial management, financial management, and vendor management skills.
