Associate, Electro-Optical Engineering

Location: Waterdown, Ontario, Canada; onsite engineering role with a 9/80 schedule and every other Friday off.

What you will do

• Develop complex electro-optical sub-assemblies, including digital imaging, thermal imaging, and laser positioning systems.
• Support new product introduction from concept through production and contribute to improvements of established electro-optical modules.
• Verify design solutions through analysis and testing, and develop test procedures and instrumentation approaches.
• Develop and test image-processing algorithms using Matlab.
• Support manufacturing through knowledge transfer, test-method development, and resolution of design and component issues.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, systems engineering, and operations teams; prepare technical documentation and present results at design reviews.

Requirements

• Must be pursuing a bachelor's degree or have completed one within the last 12 months.
• Knowledge of optics principles, including laser systems, geometrical optics, imaging, lens design, radiometry, electromagnetic wave propagation, and thin-film optical coatings.
• Familiarity with image sensors such as CCD, CMOS, and thermal imagers.
• Strong analytical and mathematical skills with proficiency in Matlab or a similar language.
• Experience with optics and electronics laboratory environments and analog and digital video concepts.
• Must be eligible for registration with Canada's Controlled Goods Program and obtain and maintain a positive security assessment.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of optical design software such as CodeV or Zemax.
• Knowledge of range-performance modeling tools such as Modtran, NVTherm, or SSCam.
• Familiarity with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering disciplines.
