Optical Components Test Engineer (Python/MATLAB)

Location: Ottawa or Quebec City, Quebec, Canada; willingness to travel up to 10% of the time, primarily in Asia.

Annual pay range: $66,800–$106,800 CAD.

What you will do

• Develop, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize automated test systems for optical components in manufacturing environments.
• Select test instrumentation and design test stations using equipment such as VOAs, OSAs, and PNAs.
• Drive improvements in product yield, test-time reduction, manufacturing efficiency, and cost optimization.
• Support failure analysis, root-cause investigations, corrective actions, and customer-return analysis.
• Lead the transfer, deployment, and ongoing support of test systems at manufacturing partner sites.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• Previous experience with optical testing, preferably in fiber-optic environments.
• Experience with MATLAB and/or Python.
• Experience using optical test instruments, including variable optical attenuators, optical spectrum analyzers, and network analyzers.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and French.

Nice to have

• At least 3 years of experience developing automated test systems and software for manufacturing environments.
• Strong understanding of optical component testing methods and manufacturing processes.
• Experience improving yield through data analysis.
• Strong analytical, communication, problem-solving, ownership, and accountability skills.
