Principal Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote within the United States; roles are open in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, New York, Salt Lake City, and San Diego.

Salary: $122,000–$165,000 USD annually, based on experience, expertise, physical location, and organizational impact.

What you will do

• Lead the architectural design of complex backend and distributed systems from inception through deployment, monitoring, and incident response.
• Own technical workstreams, clarify requirements, document scope and risks, and drive delivery with minimal oversight.
• Advise clients through presentations, demonstrations, workshops, and technical consultations.
• Design and integrate APIs, data platforms, agent systems, LLM-backed systems, and the services connecting them.
• Mentor P1 and P2 engineers through pairing, code reviews, and design guidance.
• Lead small project teams of 2–5 individual contributors and collaborate with project managers, designers, and other disciplines.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software development experience and 3+ years developing in Python.
• Expertise in backend architecture, API design, system design patterns, microservices, and serverless systems.
• Working knowledge of agent development, LLM concepts, and tradeoffs between cost, relevance, and speed.
• Experience using GenAI productivity tools such as Gemini CLI, Claude Code, or Codex in development workflows.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, cloud platforms, Docker, version control, Agile processes, and CI/CD tooling.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States; hirify.global participates in E-Verify.

Nice to have

• Experience with an agent development framework, especially Google Agent Development Kit.
• Angular and TypeScript experience.
• Experience in a digital agency or high-growth environment leading cross-functional teams.
• People management experience.
