Principal Software Development Engineer, Backend (AI)

Location: Remote within the United States; employees may live in any of the 50 states, with limited exceptions

Base salary: $181,800–$305,700 annually, depending on location; eligible for equity awards

What you will do

• Define and drive the long-term technical strategy and architecture for scalable, secure, observable, and cost-efficient backend platforms and services.
• Lead the design and implementation of high-throughput, low-latency APIs, data pipelines, event pipelines, and platform capabilities across hirify.global products and brands.
• Solve complex technical problems through architecture decisions, prototyping, experimentation, and data-driven tradeoffs.
• Partner with product, data science, and machine learning leaders to translate business goals into technical roadmaps.
• Mentor senior engineers and technical leads while improving reliability, performance, testing, incident response, and operational excellence.
• Influence data governance, security, compliance, developer tooling, and modern backend technology adoption.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience designing, building, and operating backend or distributed systems in production.
• Experience leading large-scale, highly available, high-volume services or platforms in a cloud environment such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience providing technical leadership across teams or domains, setting architectural direction, influencing roadmaps, and driving complex initiatives from concept to production.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to work remotely from the United States, with the work location identified to hirify.global.
