Senior HIL / Controls Engineer — Lead

Location: San Diego, California, United States

What you will do

• Define HIL bench architecture, including real-time targets, I/O mapping, signal conditioning, safety interlocks, and fidelity targets.
• Develop and validate plant and power-electronics models using OPAL-RT, RT-LAB, HYPERSIM, and MATLAB/Simulink.
• Integrate HIL benches with client hardware and software build targets, run closed-loop tests, and lead defect triage.
• Own acceptance specifications and drive them through sign-off with client engineering.
• Direct distributed controls, test, and software engineers through work planning, reviews, and weekly client reporting.
• Safeguard export-controlled technical data and ensure controlled material is accessed only by cleared individuals.

Requirements

• 8+ years of controls, test, or systems engineering experience in high-power electronics, plasma, laser, or precision motion systems.
• 3+ years of hands-on HIL development with OPAL-RT or comparable platforms such as dSPACE, Speedgoat, or NI VeriStand.
• Strong MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++, real-time systems, and FPGA I/O experience.
• Experience integrating HIL benches with production firmware and hardware prototypes.
• Ability to lead distributed teams and communicate with client engineering leadership.
• BS or MS in Electrical, Mechatronics, or Controls Engineering.

Nice to have

• Semiconductor capital equipment or EUV/DUV source experience.
• Python test automation.
• SECS/GEM or EtherCAT experience.
• Previous work in an ITAR/EAR environment.
