TL;DR
Principal Controls Engineer (Medical Devices) (MATLAB/Simulink): Developing and verifying model-based control algorithms for the PrisMax acute-therapy system with an accent on sensor-driven electromechanical control, embedded implementation, and safety-critical medical-device performance. Focus on designing simulations, analyzing faults and boundary conditions, integrating model-generated code, and leading verification across model-in-the-loop, software-in-the-loop, and hardware-in-the-loop environments.

Location: Plymouth, Minnesota, United States; minimum 3 days per week onsite under the flexible workplace policy

Base salary: $108,000–$148,500 annually, plus eligibility for a discretionary bonus.

Company

hirify.global develops vital organ therapy products and digital solutions, with a focus on kidney care, dialysis, and advanced services for patients and care teams.

What you will do

  • Own complex control algorithms for the PrisMax system from requirements and system behavior through architecture, implementation, integration, and lifecycle changes.
  • Develop algorithms in MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow for sensors, pumps, motors, valves, alarms, and therapy-related calculations.
  • Apply control theory and dynamic-system analysis to evaluate performance across operating conditions, component variation, and foreseeable faults.
  • Generate model-based code and collaborate with Systems, Software, Hardware, Quality, and V&V teams on embedded integration.
  • Define verification strategies, develop challenging test cases, analyze discrepancies, and maintain traceable design and verification documentation.
  • Advance model-based, model-in-the-loop, software-in-the-loop, and hardware-in-the-loop practices while mentoring engineers and leading technical reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Controls, Electrical, Mechanical, Biomedical, Systems, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 6+ years of relevant engineering experience, including hands-on control-algorithm development for embedded electromechanical products.
  • Experience with executable control models, MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, or a comparable model-based development environment.
  • Experience with model-generated code, real-time embedded software integration, plant modeling, physics-based simulation, and MIL/SIL/HIL testing.
  • Experience with medical devices or other safety-critical products, including requirements traceability, risk-informed design, configuration control, and formal documentation.
  • Ability to work onsite in Plymouth, Minnesota at least three days per week.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Controls, Electrical, Mechanical, Biomedical, Systems, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience modeling fluidic, thermal, electromechanical, or physiological-system behavior.
  • Ability to independently resolve complex technical problems, lead design reviews, and influence technical decisions.

Culture & Benefits

  • Flexible workplace policy combining onsite collaboration with workplace flexibility.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage beginning on day one for eligible roles.
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan, investment resources, financial education, and flexible spending accounts.
  • Paid holidays, 20–35 days of paid time off based on length of service, family and medical leave, and paid parental leave.
  • Educational assistance, commuting benefits, childcare benefits, employee assistance, and employee discount programs.
