Corporate Counsel, Intellectual Property Enforcement

Location: San Mateo, California, United States; hybrid schedule with two days per week in the San Mateo office.

Salary: $209,800–$314,600 USD base pay range

What you will do

• Lead legal support for the Game Protection Program in the Americas, addressing piracy, pre-release leaks, unauthorized game modifications, emulators, ports, and circumvention.
• Advise PlayStation Studios and production, security, and release teams on copyright and content-protection risks throughout the game lifecycle.
• Develop and execute enforcement strategies across online marketplaces, social media, websites, apps, physical channels, and other digital services.
• Support anti-counterfeiting investigations, cease-and-desist activity, Customs and border enforcement, administrative and criminal actions, litigation, and law-enforcement escalation.
• Work with legal, technical, investigative, security, fraud, data, business, and outside-counsel teams to turn intelligence into enforcement actions.
• Create enforcement policies, playbooks, procedures, training, and reporting while supporting broader Americas enforcement strategy.

Requirements

• Qualified lawyer with approximately 6–12 years of post-qualified experience in intellectual property enforcement.
• Strong practical knowledge of U.S. copyright law and the DMCA, including notice and takedown procedures, counternotices, safe harbors, fair use, and intermediary liability.
• Experience developing IP enforcement strategies involving online enforcement, investigations, anti-counterfeiting, and escalation to litigation or law enforcement.
• Ability to work with technical, investigative, and business specialists and translate complex information into practical legal strategies.
• Strong legal judgment, communication, collaboration, technical curiosity, and interest in video games and interactive entertainment.
• Ability to work in a hybrid schedule with two days per week in the San Mateo office.

Nice to have

• Experience with video games, software, digital content, game modifications, emulators, piracy, pre-release content protection, or technological protection measures.
• Experience with game or content protection programs and DMCA anti-circumvention matters.
• Experience working with online marketplaces, platforms, intermediaries, or specialist enforcement providers.
• Experience with IP enforcement in China or familiarity with design law and design-right enforcement.
