Counsel, Legal Affairs

Location: Hybrid in Universal City, California, with a minimum of four office days per week. Willingness to travel and work overtime, including weekends with short notice, is required.

Salary: $150,000–$180,000 per year, plus eligibility for bonus and long-term incentives.

What you will do

• Negotiate and draft acquisition, development, production, and talent agreements for Universal Pictures.
• Draft, review, analyze, and interpret contracts while advising on legal risks and issues.
• Manage production legal matters, including rights and chain-of-title issues, clearances, guild matters, advertising, promotion, and publicity.
• Advise creative, business, production, finance, labor and employment, marketing, promotions, insurance, and tax departments.
• Provide guidance on applicable union and guild collective bargaining agreements.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of practicing attorney experience.
• JD degree from an accredited law school.
• Membership in the California State Bar or registration with the California Bar as in-house counsel.
• Strong background in U.S. and international copyright law and intellectual property matters.
• Outstanding negotiation, drafting, analytical, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to manage a high-volume workload independently and collaboratively.
