Senior Complex Claims Specialist, PL & Specialty Severity

Location: Hybrid, with in-office attendance at least two days per week for candidates near an office in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Manhattan, or West Hartford; qualified remote candidates may also be considered. The position is based in the United States.

Salary: $140,000–$170,000 per year, plus performance-based bonus.

What you will do

• Handle the organization’s highest-severity primary Professional Lines claims from inception through resolution, including Miscellaneous Professional Liability, A&E, Allied Health, and Media claims.
• Prepare complex technical coverage analyses and letters with minimal supervision.
• Lead investigations, negotiations, litigation strategy, alternative dispute resolution, and trial evaluation.
• Collaborate with external experts, legal counsel, underwriters, brokers, insureds, and internal business partners.
• Identify emerging exposures, claims trends, and suspected fraud while maintaining accurate claim files.
• Provide technical support, mentor claims professionals, and develop and deliver training for claims teams and underwriters.

Requirements

• 10+ years of Professional Liability and/or Specialty claims handling experience.
• B.A. or B.S. degree required; a JD from an ABA-accredited law school is preferred or may supplement claims handling experience.
• Expert knowledge of coverage in the relevant specialty and of litigation and negotiation processes.
• Demonstrated success handling high-severity claims, leading litigation, and achieving positive claim outcomes.
• Adjuster licensing required or the ability to obtain it within 90 days of employment.
• Advanced analytical, communication, mentoring, and independent decision-making skills.
