SMT Process Engineer (AI Hardware)

Location: San Jose, California, United States; fully on-site at Santana Row. Relocation support is available for candidates moving to San Jose.

What you will do

• Launch the first SMT production line by supporting equipment selection, technical specifications, acceptance criteria, installation, and facility coordination.
• Qualify SMT equipment through factory and site acceptance testing, startup, validation, and production qualification.
• Program and optimize solder paste printers, SPI, pick-and-place, AOI, AXI where applicable, and depanelization equipment.
• Define and qualify stencils, PCB support tooling, carrier pallets, vacuum fixtures, and rework fixtures for engineering and production builds.
• Lead SMT support across prototype, EVT, DVT, PVT, and production builds, including troubleshooting, engineering changes, and product transfers.
• Establish operating procedures, process controls, operator training, lab readiness, and continuous improvement for FPY, throughput, OEE, setup time, and changeovers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of SMT manufacturing engineering experience.
• Experience installing, commissioning, or starting up SMT production lines.
• Experience with equipment acceptance testing, qualification, and production ramp-up.
• Hands-on experience programming and optimizing SMT equipment and supporting PCBA manufacturing from prototype through high-volume production.
• Experience leading technicians or small technical teams.
