TL;DR
Mechatronics Engineer, Robotics Hardware (Robotics/AI): Designing and integrating mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical systems that package compute and perception hardware onto large wheeled vehicle platforms with an accent on CAD, PCB design, sensor integration, actuation, and rugged field deployment. Focus on solving cross-domain hardware failures, validating safety-critical robotics systems, and supporting the full lifecycle from fabrication and bring-up through real-world operation.

Location: Irvine, California, United States. On-site work is required.

Company

hirify.global develops risk-aware, reliable, field-ready AI systems for embodied intelligence and autonomous robotics.

What you will do

  • Design mechanical CAD packaging, mounts, enclosures, and structural solutions for compute and perception hardware on large wheeled platforms.
  • Design PCBs for power regulation, power distribution, and wired communication systems.
  • Integrate cameras, LiDAR, GPS, IMU, onboard computers, wiring, thermal paths, and ingress-protection solutions.
  • Design and integrate motors, drives, actuators, feedback systems, and platform-level control interfaces.
  • Coordinate fabrication, hands-on assembly, hardware bring-up, validation, debugging, and root-cause analysis.
  • Support field deployments, diagnose real-world failures, and collaborate with mechanical, electrical, embedded, sensor, and autonomy engineers on iterative improvements.

Requirements

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or an equivalent mechanical CAD platform for enclosures, mounts, and structural packaging.
  • Experience with PCB schematic and layout tools such as KiCad or Altium, especially for power and communication systems.
  • Hands-on experience with motors, actuators, drives, feedback control, hardware fabrication, assembly, and integration.
  • Ability to debug failures across mechanical, electrical, and firmware boundaries using oscilloscopes, power monitors, logs, and analyzers.
  • Willingness to support hardware in rugged outdoor field environments and iterate designs based on real-world failures.

Nice to have

  • Experience scaling systems from prototype to large-scale production.
  • Experience with deployed robotics, autonomous vehicles, drones, ruggedized robots, robotic arms, or multi-robot systems.
  • Background in motor control, servo systems, robotic manipulation, or locomotion hardware.
  • Fluency across mechanical, electrical, software, and systems-level robotics engineering.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work in a small, fast-moving hardware team focused on capability, reliability, and scalability.
  • Build systems that are fabricated, tested on real hardware, and deployed in challenging field environments.
  • Contribute across the full robotics hardware lifecycle, from research and design through production and field support.
  • Collaborate closely with senior engineers across mechanical, electrical, embedded, sensor, and autonomy disciplines.
