Staff Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails)

Location: Hybrid in Denver, Colorado; New York, New York; or San Francisco, California. Regular office attendance is expected approximately 2–3 days per week or more depending on the role. The San Francisco office expectation includes the San Jose metro area.

Cash compensation: $163,000–$204,000 in Denver and $197,000–$247,000 in San Francisco, Seattle, and New York. Stock equity is additional.

What you will do

• Own and extend existing third-party integrations and build new integrations as the portfolio expands.
• Design and develop reliable Ruby on Rails and Sidekiq backend services that synchronize data with partner platforms.
• Evaluate and implement integration patterns, including AI agent protocols such as MCP.
• Define the technical approach and roadmap for the growing integrations domain.
• Partner with Product, Design, and Data Science to validate accountant workflows and incorporate feedback.
• Review code, establish engineering practices, and mentor engineers as the team scales.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software development experience.
• Experience owning multi-quarter projects from scoping and planning through execution, stakeholder management, and launch.
• Strong platform or application engineering background, including services, APIs, third-party integrations, data flows, and observability.
• Ability to work effectively in an ambiguous, early-stage domain where the roadmap is not fully defined.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical tradeoffs to engineering and cross-functional partners.
• AI-native engineering workflow, including regular use of AI tools for code generation, review, debugging, and documentation.

Nice to have

• Ruby on Rails experience.
• Experience with OAuth and third-party API integrations.
• Familiarity with AI agent protocols such as MCP or agentic integration patterns.
