Senior Software Engineer, Trust & Safety (Fintech)

Location: Chicago, IL, USA or San Francisco, CA, USA; hybrid work with four days per week in the office and Fridays from home for employees near an office.

Base salary: $164,000–$259,000 USD per year, with potential bonuses, equity, and benefits for full-time employees.

What you will do

• Set technical direction and make architectural decisions for Trust & Safety platform modernization.
• Build and maintain robust, low-latency APIs and backend services.
• Lead multiple projects end-to-end while coordinating with data engineers, analysts, and product managers.
• Improve platform reliability and performance through system architecture, observability, and automation.
• Evolve experimentation, policy lifecycle, and ML integration capabilities for decision-making at scale.
• Mentor engineers and participate in the on-call rotation, including incident response outside regular working hours when necessary.

Requirements

• 5+ years of production software development experience at scale.
• Experience as a technical lead on teams and complex projects, including architectural decisions and cross-functional execution.
• Experience with Ruby on Rails or comparable frameworks.
• Experience with transactional databases and caching systems.
• Deep understanding of architectural patterns for large-scale web applications.
• Commitment to mentoring engineers and writing maintainable, well-tested code.
