Senior Software Engineer (Code Search)

Base salary: USD $124,000–$329,200 per year

What you will do

• Develop, scale, operate, and extend the Blackbird lexical and semantic code search engine.
• Own system health, reliability, security, privacy, accessibility, and compliance, including on-call and first-responder rotations.
• Design and implement APIs, automated CI/CD pipelines, production automation, and developer tooling.
• Collect and analyze service metrics, use observability and SLOs to prioritize work, and improve product quality through data.
• Write architecture proposals, run experiments, build prototypes, and deliver high-quality services at planetary scale.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, project managers, and partner teams across the Copilot Agents organization.

Requirements

• 6+ years of software engineering or related technical experience, or equivalent experience through the listed degree and experience alternatives.
• Proven experience maintaining and delivering production software in one or more languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python.
• Experience with distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, reliability engineering, or related production technologies.
• Ability to work autonomously, learn quickly, communicate clearly, and set technical direction.
• Understanding of monitoring and observability across networking, applications, caching, queuing, load balancing, storage, and distributed-service layers.
• Ability to work remotely from the United States.

Nice to have

• At least 2 years of experience with systems programming, search index internals, or information retrieval.
• Experience solving problems involving large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong testing practices and experience improving engineering processes.
