Principal Electrical Engineer – Fuel Cell Systems (Hydrogen)

Salary: $114,000–$185,250 per year

What you will do

• Set the electrical technical direction for hydrogen fuel cell power systems across concept, design, validation, and production release.
• Architect and validate DC/DC converters, power distribution, protection, grounding, harnesses, sensors, and balance-of-plant electrical systems.
• Lead embedded control hardware development on DSP, MCU, and FPGA platforms, including hardware-software interface definition.
• Drive EMI/EMC mitigation, PCB reviews, component selection, magnetics design, DFM/DFT, and structured root-cause corrective actions.
• Own electrical DVP&R, DV/PV testing, environmental and safety qualification, reliability analysis, DFMEA, and functional safety activities.
• Lead certification, supplier qualification, stage-gate milestones, NPI programs, cross-functional technical reviews, and mentoring of electrical engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
• 10+ years of power electronics development experience in regulated or high-reliability industries.
• Expertise in DC/DC converter design and validation, topology selection, magnetics, thermal analysis, and EMC.
• Hands-on embedded controls hardware experience with DSP, MCU, or FPGA platforms, plus system-level electrical architecture experience.
• Experience with DVP&R, DFMEA, DV/PV testing, Stage-Gate development, compliance, and certification involving UL, CE, ISO, SAE, or NFPA 2.
• Experience with PCB ECAD and circuit simulation tools; Altium, SPICE, and MATLAB/Simulink are relevant tools. Ability to travel up to 10% is required.

Nice to have

• Direct experience with PEM fuel cell, hydrogen energy, or electrochemical power systems.
• Wide-bandgap SiC/GaN power device experience and familiarity with hydrogen-specific electrical safety requirements.
• Experience with ISO 26262, IEC 61508, model-based development, and HIL testing.
