Staff Mechanical Product Development Engineer (Thermal-Mechanical)

Location: San Diego, CA, US; hybrid work environment. The facility is ITAR-controlled, and candidates must be a US Person as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15.

Salary: $115,500–$214,500 annually, with potential eligibility for additional annual incentives.

What you will do

• Lead New Product Development projects from concept through production launch and commercialization.
• Develop thermal-mechanical products and enclosure solutions for Aerospace & Defense and commercial applications.
• Create 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and manufacturing documentation using SolidWorks.
• Perform thermal, mechanical, and structural analysis, including FEA, to optimize product performance and guide build decisions.
• Lead design reviews, risk assessments, DFMEA, root-cause investigations, testing, validation, prototyping, and launch support.
• Coordinate with customers, manufacturing, sales, product management, operations, and engineering teams while mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
• 10+ years of experience in mechanical product development, component creation, or New Product Development.
• More than 5 years of experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
• Experience taking products through concept, prototyping, manufacturing, validation, and launch.
• Strong knowledge of thermal analysis, mechanical analysis, FEA, testing, root-cause analysis, and problem solving.
• Must qualify as a US Person under 22 C.F.R. 120.15 to work at the ITAR-controlled San Diego facility.

Nice to have

• Experience in regulated manufacturing environments such as AS9100 or ISO 13485.
• Background in thermal management, electronics cooling, heat transfer, enclosure systems, brazed assemblies, or material selection.
• Experience supporting Aerospace & Defense, electronics, industrial, or infrastructure products.
