Cytogenetics Technologist II, FISH

Location: Torrance, California, United States. Onsite schedule: Tuesday–Saturday, 2:00 p.m.–10:30 p.m., with flexibility required.

Pay range: $25–$50 per hour.

What you will do

• Perform FISH testing and analysis for hematologic and FFPE specimens.
• Complete tissue culture, harvesting, slide preparation and banding, automated karyotyping, reagent preparation, FISH processing, probing, and scoping.
• Evaluate specimen acceptability and perform routine and complex procedures according to standard operating procedures.
• Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and assays.
• Prepare and evaluate reagents and controls, and perform preventive maintenance and quality control.
• Report accurate and timely results, maintain supplies and documentation, and follow laboratory safety and PPE requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical or biological science, clinical laboratory science, medical technology, or an applicable non-traditional degree meeting CLIA standards.
• At least three years of clinical laboratory testing experience.
• At least one year of FISH wet laboratory and FISH analysis experience.
• California Clinical Cytogeneticist Scientist License required.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a high-volume laboratory environment, troubleshoot technical issues, and maintain quality performance.
• Computer proficiency, familiarity with laboratory information systems, strong attention to detail, and ability to meet physical requirements and pass a standardized color blindness test.

Nice to have

• Three years of FISH wet laboratory testing and FISH analysis experience.
• Three years of experience performing and interpreting FISH assays on hematologic and FFPE specimens.
• Scientist in Cytogenetics certification from ASCP.
