Lead Medical Lab Scientist (Blood Bank)

Location: 251 E. Huron, Chicago, IL, United States; onsite, full-time day shift

Salary: USD 38.17–51.53 per hour

What you will do

• Provide technical and administrative oversight for blood bank laboratory personnel and direct workflow.
• Perform waived, moderate, and high-complexity testing, including pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic activities.
• Conduct assay validations, instrument correlations, calibrations, IT validations, and new test implementation.
• Review quality control, proficiency testing, test results, and corrective actions while maintaining test system integrity.
• Troubleshoot instruments and laboratory systems, coordinate field service, and recommend equipment or system improvements.
• Support regulatory compliance, SOP updates, staff training, competency assessments, and laboratory information system maintenance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a qualifying Allied Health field.
• Two years of clinical laboratory experience in a TJC- or CAP-accredited laboratory.
• Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) (ASCP), or categorical BB, C, H, or M (ASCP), or equivalent certification within one year of hire for candidates hired after January 19, 2025.
• Experience with high-complexity testing, quality control, validation, troubleshooting, and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to exercise independent technical judgment and train or coach laboratory staff.
