Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Fraud Decisioning)

Location: Remote within the United States. Most roles can be performed almost anywhere within the country of employment; occasional in-person work and onboarding may be required.

Base pay: $230,000–$290,000 annually in CA, WA, NY, NJ, and CT; $204,000–$264,000 annually in other U.S. states. Total compensation may also include equity, stipends, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead large, cross-functional Fraud Decisioning initiatives from definition and technical specification through delivery, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Architect, implement, and maintain simple, resilient, and debuggable backend systems and high-quality code.
• Build tools and systems that improve fraud-fighting capabilities and support data-driven risk decisions.
• Review technical work and maintain consistent engineering quality across teams.
• Lead and mentor engineers, provide context, and develop ownership across initiatives.
• Partner with Product, ML, Analytics, and Business stakeholders and contribute to technical hiring evaluations and interview design.

Requirements

• 6–10+ years of software engineering experience with leadership responsibilities.
• Experience mentoring engineers, including junior engineers.
• Experience architecting, building, launching, coding, and maintaining complex systems.
• Expertise in translating complex business, product, and technical requirements into high-quality system designs and software.
• Ability to design system modules and components from broader business and product requirements.
• Equivalent practical experience or a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
