Staff Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: US remote eligible; must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity. Occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites may be required by agreement with the manager.

Base pay range: $204,000–$255,000 USD per year, with potential bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.

What you will do

• Build data and ML systems that track supply, pricing, listings, and competitor activity across travel markets.
• Partner with product and ML engineers to explore customer problems, prototype solutions, and influence product strategy.
• Develop backend services, APIs, and architecture supporting data and AI products.
• Set technical and execution strategies for new projects and drive hands-on implementation.
• Lead technical design and code reviews while promoting engineering, testing, and product development best practices.
• Mentor and grow more junior engineers and collaborate across engineering and product teams.

Requirements

• 10+ years of industry experience.
• Experience leading teams, setting technical direction, and building and launching high-impact user-facing products.
• Experience influencing product managers, designers, engineering teams, and other cross-functional partners.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and establish engineering best practices.
• Must be located in an eligible US state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity.
