News Team Lead (Environment)

What you will do

• Lead breaking news and enterprise journalism covering environmental and energy policy, regulations, federal agencies, courts, and Congress.
• Set the newsroom agenda across daily coverage and longer-term editorial priorities.
• Manage, coach, and develop reporters and editors while setting goals and removing barriers to excellent journalism.
• Strengthen newsroom culture, collaboration, and communication across experience levels.
• Make timely editorial decisions during breaking news and plan future coverage needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Seven or more years of journalism experience with demonstrated success producing excellent and ambitious stories.
• Exceptional curiosity, news judgment, and understanding of audience needs.
• Advanced editing skills and the ability to provide constructive feedback.
• Strong collaboration, change management, communication, and people-management skills.
• Ability to work from the Arlington, Virginia location.
