Part Time Reporter (Digital News)

Location: Remote, but candidates must reside in New York or New Jersey. Expected schedule is Wednesday–Saturday, 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., with variable hours and occasional driving for assignments, training, and meetings.

Salary: $28.00–$32.30 per hour.

What you will do

• Report breaking news and feature stories for digital, social, and print platforms.
• Work in the field to gather information about developing events, cultivate sources, and uncover exclusive stories.
• Create and edit text, photos, videos, podcasts, live streams, graphics, maps, timelines, and other multimedia formats.
• Fact-check information, conduct background research, verify sources, and maintain accuracy, clarity, and impartiality.
• Use audience metrics and social platforms to improve engagement and develop content strategies.
• Collaborate with audience, data, visuals, and editorial teams while meeting deadlines with limited supervision.

Requirements

• Professional command of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and clear, accurate writing.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• At least one year of reporting experience at a news publication or website.
• Knowledge of libel law, editorial ethics, current events, social platforms, SEO, and digital publishing.
• Basic familiarity with Chartbeat, Adobe Analytics, social analytics, and translating metrics into editorial tactics.
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, willingness to complete a background check and MVR check, and availability for variable shift coverage are required.
