Location: Chicago, Illinois; onsite work from the Chicago offices

What you will do

• Manage the national assignment desk across varied shifts and identify stories relevant to a national audience.
• Research stories, contact sources, verify information, and report out developing news.
• Gather video, audio, pictures, and other editorial elements for coverage.
• Coordinate breaking, continuing, and daily news coverage with correspondents, producers, photojournalists, and field teams.
• Monitor social media, competitive broadcasts, cable and digital platforms, and clear user-generated content.
• Support station collaboration, file sharing, transmission-facility bookings, rights clearances, and editorial logistics.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field, or equivalent education and work experience.
• Five to ten years of newsroom experience, ideally in national news or a top local market.
• Strong writing, organizational, communication, and people skills with close attention to detail.
• Willingness to work extended or modified shifts, weekdays, and holidays as news developments require.
• Flexibility to adjust schedules and assignments as network needs evolve.
