Electrical Engineer/Designer (Industrial Automation)

Location: Burlington, Ontario, Canada. The role includes on-site subcontractor monitoring, technical surveys, inspections, commissioning, and willingness to travel 30–50%.

Salary: CAD 85,000–100,000 per year, plus benefits, bonuses, and additional extra-hours payments.

What you will do

• Design, develop, analyze, and specify electrical control systems, associated hardware, safety systems, and pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Create bidding materials, project scopes, user requirements, and functional design specifications.
• Perform risk assessments, material procurement planning, panel fabrication specifications, and construction budgeting.
• Troubleshoot electrical installations, support commissioning, conduct technical surveys and inspections, and prepare project reports.
• Coordinate contractor schedules, bidding meetings, walkthroughs, permits, site requirements, and subcontractor safety and quality compliance.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and less experienced system designers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical education.
• 6+ years of experience designing electrical control systems.
• Strong analytical, decision-making, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.
• Experience independently handling complex studies, analyses, interpretations, and design decisions involving long-term objectives and budgets.
• Knowledge of industrial IT and systems design, with the ability to adapt to new technologies and projects.
• Willingness to travel 30–50% and work on-site when required.

Nice to have

• Experience mentoring less experienced designers.
• Experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron, Modicon, GE, PLC I/O systems, Ethernet communications, variable frequency drives, servo motion control, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and safety PLCs.
