Controls Engineer (Industrial Automation)

Location: Oakville, Ontario, Canada; approximately 20–30% travel to customer sites in the U.S. with occasional international travel.

Salary: $100,000–$125,000 CAD per year.

What you will do

• Develop complete controls and automation solutions for packaging and material handling systems.
• Design, program, test, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI applications using Allen-Bradley, Siemens, FactoryTalk, Ignition, WinCC, and related platforms.
• Define control system architecture, software solutions, functional specifications, I/O lists, network architecture, and operating sequences.
• Integrate industrial networks, robotics, servo systems, VFDs, vision systems, instrumentation, and safety controls.
• Support electrical design, including schematics, panel layouts, component selection, power distribution, MCCs, PDPs, and control hardware.
• Lead FAT, SAT, startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer acceptance while collaborating with project, engineering, manufacturing, field service, and customer teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of Controls Engineering experience in industrial automation, packaging machinery, manufacturing, or system integration.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Strong PLC programming experience with Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens platforms, plus HMI development experience.
• Experience with industrial communication networks, automation integration, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
• Working knowledge of electrical schematics, control panel design, industrial power distribution, and North American electrical and machine safety standards.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and technical documentation skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with robotics, servo systems, VFDs, machine safety systems, instrumentation, packaging machinery, OEM equipment, or automated production systems.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical or similar design software.
• P.Eng. designation.
