Mechanical Engineer (Consumer Electronics)

Location: Shanghai or Penang, with work from an office, partner, or supplier location 3–4 days per week

What you will do

• Own mechanical architecture and integration strategies for major modules and product platforms.
• Drive technical alignment across Industrial Design, Acoustics, Electrical Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain.
• Anticipate technical risks across build phases and programs, and lead investigations and corrective actions for reliability and manufacturing issues.
• Define mechanical design methodologies, including tolerance management, material and process selection, and DFM/DFA gates.
• Guide supplier capability development, tooling strategy, process capability, yield improvements, and cost reduction.
• Lead design reviews, define project deliverables and schedules, influence engineering roadmaps, and mentor IC1–IC3 engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent field.
• 8+ years of relevant mechanical or product development experience.
• Expertise in mechanical architecture, tolerance strategy, and design for high-volume manufacturing.
• Ability to lead through influence and make complex technical decisions with incomplete information.
• Strong English communication skills, including presenting technical narratives to senior stakeholders.
• Ability to work from an office, partner, or supplier location in Shanghai or Penang 3–4 days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience shipping multiple products in consumer electronics or other high-volume hardware environments.
• Expertise in plastic or metal design at scale, sealing and IP strategy, vibration control, thermal management, reliability engineering, or acoustic enclosure integration.
• Experience defining team standards, best practices, or engineering processes adopted across programs.
